Patrol Deputy Position Description
$3,046.95 – $3,346.93/monthly
Various shifts. Specific shift not determined until after hiring and completion of all initial training requirements.
The successful patrol deputy will maintain a good working relationship with the general public while enforcing law to promote the general safety and welfare of the public. The wide-ranging activities of a patrol deputy will include, but not be limited to: enforcing traffic laws, serving search warrants/subpoenas/civil papers, apprehending felons and misdemeanants, taking reports, providing traffic control and basic first aid among others. This position requires the deputy to be self-motivated and possess independent decision making skills.
The position involves frequent interaction with suspects, inmates, attorneys, other law enforcement officers, and the public. This position has been identified with possible risk of exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or other various hazards that require immunization against such exposure. Employees are frequently required to stand, walk, sit, run, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, and smell. Deputies may find themselves in dangerous, life-threatening, or unusual situations at any time.
This position receives daily supervision from either a Corporal, Sergeant, or Lieutenant. This position is responsible for following any order or direction from the chain of command as follows:
- Deputy Chief
- Chief Deputy
- Provide preventative patrol in the unincorporated areas of Wichita County and enforce the law
- Respond to calls for service, assistance and law enforcement emergencies
- Take information on incidents and criminal actions and effectively disseminate that information
- Serve criminal and civil warrants, arrest law violators
- Perform any duties associated with being a licensed Texas Peace Officer
- Respond to crime scenes, secure the scene to protect life and prevent further criminal acts
- Take calls on demand, walk in reports, and telephone reports
- Additional duties as assigned
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have a minimum Basic Law Enforcement Certificate as dictated by the State of Texas
- Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License with a good driving record
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Must be ready for 24 hour call out and be able to work extended hours under adverse conditions in extremely dangerous life threatening situations
- Must be able to work any of the three shifts that cover WCSO operations 24 hours per day
- Available for out of town trips at a moments notice for prisoner transportation
- Must maintain a degree of physical fitness
- Must maintain 40 hours minimum of training every two years

The applicant may be required to take job related tests prior to selection. The final decision for this position is made by the Sheriff.
