Complaints

It is the goal of the Wichita County Sheriff and his staff to treat all persons, regardless of race, gender, creed or any other factor, with respect and courtesy. On occasion, an individual in this office may fail to obtain this goal. It is this office’s desire to learn of the circumstances of this failure to achieve our goal, and take corrective action, if necessary, and advise you of the outcome of our self-inspection. Please take time to print, fill out, and return a Citizen Complaint form so we can contact you to advise you of the results of our investigation and corrective action taken.

Once you complete a Citizen Complaint form, it will be placed in a sealed envelope and delivered to the Sheriff for his inspection. You will be notified within thirty days of the results of your complaint. Your complaint will be investigated and if any portion of the investigation is found to be false, criminal charges will be filed. If you need assistance in completing this form or you desire to talk to a Sheriff’s Office supervisor immediately, please call the Sheriff’s Office at (940)766-8170. Once you have completed the form you may mail it directly to the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office, drop it off in person Monday-Friday from 8a-5p, or have a supervisor come and pick it up as they see fit.

False Complaints

Filing a false complaint against a police employee is a violation of the Texas Penal Code, Section 37.02. If a person knowingly and intentionally makes a false statement under oath, or swears to the truth of a false statement previously made under oath, a person may be found guilty and punished by a fine up to $4,000, confinement in jail up to one year, or by both fine and imprisonment.

Racial Profiling Complaints

CCP Art. 2.132 Law Enforcement Policy on Racial Profiling requires the department to provide public education on the racial profiling complaint process. For the Wichita County Sheriff’s Office, this process is the same as the office’s complaint process, as described on this web site.

The Wichita County Sheriff’s Office is vitally interested in taking action when its employees are derelict in their duties or are guilty of wrongdoing. Your complaint will be given a fair and thorough investigation.
