On Sunday May 17, at approximately 3:07 pm, Deputy Chis Barnett responded to U.S. 287 and Maurine Street to assist a Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Hardin with a traffic stop. Upon arrival, Deputy Barnett deployed his K-9 partner Deputy Abel to conduct a free air sniff of the vehicle. Deputy Abel alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. One Hundred Fifty One pounds of Marijuana was seized. Richard Allan Pope, a 62-year-old white male, was the driver and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Wichita County Detention Center and was charged with Possession of Marijuana over 50 pounds under 200 pounds.
